Precision Sensing × Smart Temperature Control — Saving Every Kilowatt for a Budget Hotel within Walking Distance of Tainan Shin Kong Mitsukoshi
Case Overview
This clean, convenient, and affordable hotel sits next to the bustling Shin Kong Mitsukoshi district in Tainan and is popular with independent travelers and budget-minded guests. Although room rates are competitive, electricity and maintenance make up a large share of operating costs. To curb energy expenses, the owner adopted the Intelli-EMS Smart Energy Management System and installed a smart wireless thermostat in every room, aiming to consume power only when guests need it—wasting not a single extra kilowatt on air-conditioning.
Customer Needs & Challenges
Challenge | Details |
High electricity costs | In summer, HVAC accounts for nearly half of total operating expenses, directly eroding profit margins. |
Rapid guest turnover | Many guests stay only one night; forgetting to switch off the A/C when they leave is common. |
Limited budget | The solution must be “one-and-done,” require minimal installation, and pay back quickly—no major renovations. |
Privacy concerns | Sensors must avoid built-in cameras to ensure guest privacy. |
Solution
Smart wireless thermostat replaces old wall panel
The original wall-mounted A/C panel is simply swapped for a smart wireless thermostat. When a room is unoccupied, the system automatically turns off the unit or raises the set temperature to prevent idle operation. No rewiring or décor damage is required.
Whole-property wireless communication
Temperature settings, power use, and occupancy/checkout status are sent in real time to the back end. Long-range, low-power wireless tech blankets the entire building, eliminating extra network cabling and enabling remote A/C control.
Intelli-EMS cloud management
The Intelli-EMS “War Room” dashboard shows the live status of every unit. Front-desk or engineering staff can view each room’s temperature, power draw, and occupancy via browser or app, and push batch commands such as Energy-Saving Mode or Off-Season Schedule—no more room-by-room inspections.
OTA firmware updates
When new energy-saving strategies or fixes are released, staff simply click Update in the back end. Firmware is pushed in bulk to every thermostat—no in-room visits, virtually zero maintenance cost.
